মাছ ধরার ফাঁদ “চাই”

চাই (মাছ ধরার ফাঁদ) বাংলাদেশে বর্ষাকালে মাছ ধরার একটি দেশীয় যন্ত্র। এগুলো বাঁশ ও বেত দিয়ে তৈরি করা হয় এবং সাধারণত ধানক্ষেত ও খালের খরস্রোতা পানির আড়ালে লুকিয়ে রাখা হয়। বাঁশের কাঠির এই একমুখী জালের মধ্য দিয়ে পানি বেরিয়ে যেতে পারলেও মাছ যেতে পারে না। দেশের বিভিন্ন স্থানে ঐতিহ্যগতভাবে চাই-এর আকার ও আকৃতি ভিন্ন হয়ে থাকে।

The Fish Traps of Chai

chai ( fish-trap) is an indigenous device to catch fishes in rainy season in Bangladesh. These are made of bamboos and canes, usually kept hidden against rushing water in paddy fields and canals. Through the one-way mazes of bamboo sticks water can flow out but fishes can not. Size and shapes of chai are traditionally different in different places of the country.
